| UK's North Sea Oil production relies on Zollern's planetary gears for winches and slewing drives. Wave following systems take advantage of differential gearing to superimpose high speed light tension loads to the main lift | |
|
The hoist winches illustrated demonstrate the flexibility of Zollern's modular approach. Bespoke gearing, right, allows for twin motor/twin brake input on a hoist winch for Phillips Norway which also has a tailine on a secondary drum. And, above, a secondary braking system, fully enclosed, oil filled, reliable and maintainance free. |
Applications Onshore

The 10Te cranes on the left were
built in the '50s by Stothert and Pitt, England.
To their credit the units
are still working well. On the right Stothert's solution for the '90s. A 40Te safe load crane which can handle today's containerised freight. |
|
|
Users demand that the ship be turned around quickly and this calls for high speed handling of the loads - no mean feat when the load is a 40Te container. Stothert and Pitt chose a Zollern 4.34 winch unit with twin ropes - the winch has proved equal to the task | |
| We do not only make gears for cranes! Here Zollern's unique two speed gearbox is used for piling. Having drilled 4m into an old airport runway at Gloucester, England with the gear in high torque mode, the ratio is switched hydraulically and the auger spun to 120 rpm to throw off the accumulated spoil - dramatic - and it works, a good job as the contractor has a further thousand piles to drill! |
